The Mac “Mini-Me” – Is It Coming?
On August 13, 2007, my life changed! A trip to the Apple Store resulted in my going home with a MacBook Pro and a new iPhone (at the early adopter premium price). I left the world of PCs and entered the world of “Mac.”
Ever since that day, I’ve been dreaming of a “mini-me” mash up of those two into a tablet small enough to drop in my purse and yet powerful enough to let me do my usual email/web browsing and a little light note-taking at interviews.
Something like that may be in the works, though anything Apple might do in the future is always a matter of speculation and fantasy.
Wall Street Journal’s Digital Daily by John Paczkowski, describes something that would fit my dreams exactly:
Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured Multi-Touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion’s haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at ‘low’ price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will… App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.
I’m putting pennies in the piggy bank now!
