Cross-Media Marketing Now Includes Smell?

Well, not exactly… I was hoping that some wildly creative ink manufacturer and printer had teamed up to find a way to add “variable scents” to printed documents. Nope, just wishful thinking. But this is just about as good!

Combining offset printing from a Heidelberg press with digital printing on a Xerox iGen3 and a custom “web to print” workflow, Yves St. Laurent offered visitors to a Web site the means to send a personalized greeting card and selected perfume sample to friends. Looks like a number of perfume companies are using this kind of solution, Cardmine also launched a similar program for Chanel, L’Oreal, and other perfumeries.  Cardmine and Magjak provided the production services on this project which Xerox highlighted at drupa 2008.

Sorry folks, no pretty pictures - but what a great concept! One more example of personalized communication at work!
