Has Microsoft flipped its lid? Probably not, but the Surface is going to become the Wall (actually, Touch Wall) for use in schools, board rooms, and small businesses. The Touch Wall is essentially a Surface flipped on its side and mounted. These are just a few if the finger-friendly prototypes that Microsoft Research is working on. They are apparently also working on a spherical unit!

I’ve been following the development of “e-paper” since the fall of 2000 when I saw a sample at a Seybold Seminar conference in San Francisco. It was there that I heard John Seely Brown (formerly of Xerox PARC fame) describe it as “today’s news on yesterday’s paper.”

My first impression? It was about the size of a sheet of copy paper and had a dirty gray color like a sheet of plastic left out over the winter!

At the time Brown noted that he was talking about technology that was 5 to 10 years away. Looks like we’re right on schedule! (Read the article)

I have to qualify that; I can’t really love any airline - they mistreat passengers so badly. Continental Airlines may win my heart with this nifty twist to the boarding pass, though.

From my favorite technogeek site - Engadget - comes this great news:

Continental has been testing a wireless boarding pass system in Houston’s Intercontinental Airport and its being expanded to three more sites: Boston’s Logan International Airport, Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C., and Newark International Airport in New Jersey.

It’s great news for me since I’m sometimes challenged to find a printer when I need it. Now the next question - does it work on my iPhone?
